Este corto documental forma parte de un proyecto escénico de teatro documental homónimo de la Cía. PUCTUM, que trabaja con un grupo de vecinos sobre sus vivencias autobiográficas, vinculadas a la historia y a las transformaciones de los barrios que componen el distrito de Arganzuela. La observación de la morfología urbanística del distrito, equiparable a la pierna de un vacuno al ser diseccionada; y las viejas naves del antiguo  Matadero, como espacio cargado de significación histórica e identitaria para el barrio, fueron los puntos de partida de Corte Arganzuela en su formato escénico y audiovisual. A partir de este planteamiento artístico, PUCTUM se hizo preguntas como: ¿Qué tiene Arganzuela que lo diferencia de otros distritos madrileños? ¿Qué cortes históricos, urbanos y culturales se han operado en el distrito en los últimos 30 ó 40 años? Si Arganzuela fuera una vaca que va al matadero, ¿dónde le harían los cortes?.

La Compañía PUCTUM de teatro experimental es creada y dirigida por Cecilia Pérez-Pradal en Madrid en 2007, junto a un equipo de artistas y colaboradores provenientes de diferentes disciplinas artísticas y de las Ciencias Sociales. En las producciones de teatro-documenal de PUCTUM, “lo real” es el punto de partida para la escritura textual y escénica, siendo el objetivo de sus proyectos generar espacios de revalorización de las historias “en  minúscula” de las personas.

This short documentary is part of Cía. PUCTUM’s documentary theatre stage project of the same name. The project works with a group of local residents and their autobiographical experiences, linked to the history and transformations of the neighbourhoods comprising the Arganzuela District. The staging and audiovisual format of Corte Arganzuela is based on the observation of the urban morphology of the district, comparable to a leg of beef that has been dissected, and the buildings of the former Matadero (slaughterhouse), as a space full of historical meaning and identity for the neighbourhood. With this artistic premise as a starting point, PUCTUM asked questions such as: What distinguishes Arganzuela from other districts in Madrid? Over the last 30 or 40 years, what historical, urban and cultural cuts were made? If Arganzuela was livestock headed to the slaughterhouse, where would the beef be cut?

The experimental theatre company Compañía PUCTUM was created by its director Cecilia Pérez-Pradal in Madrid in 2007, along with a team of  artists and collaborators from a variety of artistic disciplines and social science fields. PUCTUM’S documentary-theatre projects use “what is real” as the basis for text and stage writing. Their project aims to generate spaces for revaluing people’s “lower case” stories. PUCTUM carries out  ocumentary-theatre projects at institutions such as La Casa Encendida and Intermediæ Matadero Madrid, among others.
