The New Dahlia Garden

May to December 2013

Fernando García-Dori / Campo Adentro

This project proposes the creation of a kitchen garden of ornamental plants and vegetables, to act as a trigger for community involvement and as a point of meeting and social cohesion for the city of Madrid.
An area of land in the Matadero complex, opposite the Arganzuela greenhouse, connected to Madrid Río Park and owned by the Municipal Arts, Sport and Tourism Department, will be prepared for the purpose.
It is proposed to design the land collaboratively, and for it to contain various growing plots under different forms of management: plots for adult and school education, collective gardening, assigned to specific associations, etc. Between the plots, the ground will be covered with resistant vegetation to serve as a recreational area and composting will be carried out on vegetable waste from the garden. A temporary building will be put up to provide information, in the form of an "Rural Environment Approach Space", which will present innovative and creative proposals for improving the urban environment.
There will also be a programme of activities (workshops, lectures and screenings) with the presence of various artists acting as facilitators for specific phases of the project (Espada y Monleón, Atelier d'Architecture Autogerée, Refarm the city, Future Farmers), which will included opening times for all entities and people interested to participate in the various facets of this new space.

Agronautas [New Urban Realities]

April to December 2013
PezEstudio

Agronautas is a multidisciplinary project concerning relationships between people and the natural environment. It generates, executes and transmits to the collective imagination new urban situations, reformulated in terms of sustainability and the public good and made viable by domestic ecological equipment that is innovative, self-buildable and open source. The Agro Station is one such area of equipment, consisting of a mobile covered space that will house energy-saving systems and self-build, open source resources that can be used, tested and further developed by the public. This space will enable different urban agents and communities to act as the creative source, to experiment with innovative ideas
through co-creation mechanisms and to test the developed solutions in real situations.
The first phase of construction of the Agro Station will take place in Intermediæ, Matadero Madrid, from 22 April to 10 May 2013, through free, collaborative and open workshops. Subsequently, a process of collective management will begin for it to roam to public spaces in the city, such as urban vegetable gardens and neighbourhood gathering spaces, where it can be tested and enjoyed by the public.

ACTIVITIES

- Workshop on building a wooden mobile space equipped with Agro Appliances. From 22 to 30 April, Monday to Friday, 10 am to 9 pm.
- Workshop on water collection, filtering and treatment systems. From 6 to 10 May, 10 am to 2 pm.
- Workshop on energy production, storage and viewing systems. From 6 to 10 May, 4 pm to 8 pm. Presentation of the documentary, "Trials aimed at selfsufficiency".

Tending Avant Garden Workshop

Given by Miguel Moreno

Sunday 28 April 12 noon to 2 pm.

Workshops for tending Avant Garden, an urban garden designed by atelier le balto. Avant Garden is a wild rose garden, a garden shared by visitors, creators, passersby... a place for coexistence and exchange, for learning, enjoyment and rest. Workshops are usually focused on exploring the concepts and philosophy underlying atelier le balto’s design for the garden. Planting season continues at the garden.

The 3R group, part of the CRPS of Arganzuela, collaborates in tending Avant Garden every other Friday from 12- 14 pm. The workshops occasionally become times for exchanges, taking cuttings cultivated at Avant Garden to other green spaces in Madrid, such as la Huerta de Roberto in Carabanchel, Esta es una Plaza in Lavapiés and la Huerta de Madrid Salud in Usera.

GUERRILLA HUERTA
Articultores, Free Culture!

Meetings and Workshops. Saturdays 1 and 15 December from 12 to 14 p.m.

Articultores is a group of people with three interests: art, gardens and people (community), united by a concept of free culture. They promote the free transit of culture, food and persons using several tools to create opportunities in which people with similar interests can meet, think and develop projects together. Articultores creates a platform for people to participate collectively.
One of the tools is the Guerrilla Huerta. With Guerrilla Huerta we walk around the city looking for abandoned sites to attack them and make them more visible. We attack them with seed bombs (small balls made of soil, clay and seeds). All the information is uploaded onto a public map, so anyone can find the points attacked to maintain or harvest them.

The encounters are structured through the following:

1- Thinking of attack strategies while we make seed bombs.
2 – Exploring the city searching for unused spaces as we take note of each site.
3 – Attacking unused spaces, while we take photos and publish them.
4-  Go back to 1.
