URBAN FRUIT ACTION [ARCOmadrid_ 2010]

Fallen Fruit
From 16 to 21, February 2010. Base camp until 14 March

People think of our cities as vital, living places, but what does it mean to live in a concrete canyon with nothing green and no food anywhere but in restaurants and stores?

Urban Fruit Action asks what would happen if instead of driving to the market for a peach you just walked out the door? Why can our streets not be vital green spaces that provide organic fruit for people to share communally?

Fallen Fruit invites you to take part in Acción Fruta Urbana. Visit their Base Camp set up in Intermediæ from February 16th onwards, designed as a place for reunion, collaboration, work and exchange with the collective. A meeting point where to undertake the actions and where the progress of their initiative in Madrid will be displayed. Once the actions are over, and up until March 14th, a selection of their works will be become the protagonist in this space in order to account for their career and experience in Madrid.

SCREENINGS AT TERRARIO / LT22 RADIO LA COLIFATA
Carlos Larrondo
Saturday 19 December, 6:30 p.m.

The Terrario's screenings are an audiovisual proposal that regularly presents videos, documentaries, and films related to the Intermediæ's programming. The next programme presents LT22 Radio La Colifata. From the garden of the Psychiatric Hospital in Buenos Aires, Argentina, J.T Borda broadcasts LT Radio La Colifata (Loony Radio), a radio station run entirely by hospital patients. Its protagonists , the “colifatos” (loonies), show us how this radio station is broadcast worldwide, breaking down barriers that separated the ill from society, giving a voice to those who for so long were silenced. The “colifatos” (loonies) travel to Europe, where they see the effects of their pioneering project in other psychiatric hospitals. On their return to Buenos Aires, Manu Chao offers a concert to a huge crowd in aid of Radio La Colifata, sharing the stage with our protagonists.

SCREENINGS AT TERRARIO / CUANDO CUMPLEN 18 (WHEN THEY TURN 18)
Natalia Castellanos
Saturday 12 December, 6:30 p.m.

The Terrario's screenings are an audiovisual proposal that regularly presents videos, documentaries, and films related to the Intermediæ's programming. This programme presents Cuando Cumplen 18. Javi is a young man who was in foster care with the Comunidad de Madrid (Madrid Regional Government). Like many other young people, he suffers abandonment and lack of protection when the Regional Government turns them out of foster care housing when they turn 18. Six months ago, Javi left the apartment where he lived and since then, he has found out how easy it is to fall into life on the streets and how hard it is to get ahead. His life is now a study in contrasts. He is on the street, going from one job interview to the next, but continues on with his hip-hop group and a local radio programme. Sara and Abdellah are in the same situation as Javi and yet, we see how each of them handles the challenge of facing the world differently.
