SHORT FILMS FOR YOU
Duncan Speakman
From 10 July to 30 September, 2012.

Audio book on loan at the information desk at Matadero Madrid and at prestamo@intermediae.es
Language of the piece: English. Loans for a maximum of 2 days.

Short Films For You is a collection of micro-experiences. Each one is a mixture of sound, location and object. Some of them you undertake alone, some on foot, some in a bus, others are for the comfort of your own home, or in the company of a friend.

Duncan Speakman has been creating audio works with his collective Circumstance, often using instructions to make the audience into performers, these works have tended to be long experiences, leaning towards notions of the epic. This project was a chance to create smaller, more detailed individual experiences, a kind of sketchbook. It also seeks to explore the relationship between the book as both an object and a leaping off point.

Each of the works in the collection was created at Timelab in collaboration with artists from different disciplines, and the core of each piece was created through an intensive one week process. Tom Abba (UK) brought in a sense of early 20th century gothic literature, Els Viaene (BE) drew on her location sound recording practice. Reinout Hiel (BE) uses photography to create a fixed visual counterpoint on a moving bus journey, Yoko Ishiguro (JP) turns the book into a performance space for an intimate dance.

This project was always going to be a risk, an experiment, and in the end it was always going to be for you. Short Films For You

Duncan Speakman is an artist whose work explores how we use sound to navigate social and physical environments. His recent work has focused on headphone based experiences that draw on cinematic styles and create participatory performances in public spaces. http://productofcircumstance.com   twitter: @ofcircumstance

During the entire month of July the GAMESTAR(T) summer camp will be held at Intermediae-Matadero organized by ARSGAMES.

This camp is for girls and boys between eight and 16 years old who are interested in technology, video games, art and to want to spend the month experimenting with video consoles and computers and playing video games.

We encourage you to join Club GAMESTAR(T) and spend a summer full of adventures!

The GAMESTAR(T) summer camp is a meeting point for neighbourhood girls and boys from age 8 to 16 where they can begin to get familiar with technology, video games, computers, etc. in the context where learning and play overlap and games become the way we learn.

Two tutors will provide them with the materials, stimuli and motivation needed to develop their abilities without fear, without criticism and with total freedom. At the GAMESTAR(T) summer camp every event will be an opportunity for learning: a broken video console can become a CPU with the right tools, an old abandoned drawing can turn into a videogame if we learn how to use Scratch or a Zelda mission can become an interesting debate.

CALLS FOR PROJECTS FOR "CITIZEN PARTICIPATION"
Until 1 July at midnight

Guidelines for the call: participar.de/es/Convocatoria

This call aims to create a participatory platform about visual arts. The platform functions as a set of interrelated actions that work as an integrated device: open call, web tool, professional meeting, and public presentation of projects. These formats seek to generate a network of knowledge exchange and to strengthen the cultural dialogue between Spain and Germany. The citizens of both countries are asked to reflect collectively on the subject of "Citizen Participation" which invites them to present artistic creation proposals. Since the financial crisis reached social environments in 2010, more citizens of all ages are increasingly reclaiming their voice in society through protest movements, citizen initiatives, and so on. In Spain, the 15 M movement arose in a particularly tough context due to the high rate of unemployment among youth and the increasingly poor economic perspectives for many levels of society. In Germany, there are permanent arguments about the transformation and reduction of the educational system within the framework of the Bologna process, while protests are increasing against large infrastructure projects such as Stuttgart 21 or expansion of the Frankfurt and Munich airports, since people feel they have a negative impact on their everyday lives. In both Spain and Germany, citizens do not feel represented and regret not being able to take an active part in processes that affect them.

From 15 th of June

Is it possible to occupy the inhabitable space that exists in all spaces with sound and visual archives or, in other words, the no-places there are in all places?

Augmented reality makes it possible to geo-locate contents on certain coordinates. By going online through mobile devices like smart phones, those archives can be found and played, provided that one is within their action radius. Poetic occupation turns readers into active visitors to places where poetic interventions have occurred.

This first non-invasive intervention brings together literary creation, music and dramatized readings along Legazpi neigbourghood, fostering the idea of an anti-guide. As people walk by, they can discover a series of audio poems, in an attempt to offer local residents and passersby a new way of walking through this fragment of the city.

How does it work?

To access the contents of “Occupacción poética” (Poetic OccupAction), you need to download the LAYAR* app, by clicking on this link:http://www.layar.com/download/

And you can add content

Intermediæ invites poets, musicians, educators and all interested people to send their proposals to continue this poetic occupation of Legazpi and other neighbourhoods in the south of the city. Contributions will be added to this initial intervention proposed by Carlos Contreras Elvira and Juan Carlos Ibáñez Angulo.

For more information visit intermediae.es/project/ocupacionpoeticalegazpi or write to ocupacionpoetica@intermediae.es

Ocupacciónpoetica (Poetic OccupAction) is an initiative conceived of in 2010 by cultural agitator Juan Carlos Ibáñez Angulo and coordinated by writer Carlos Contreras Elvira. At present it has over two thousand interventions in twenty one countries all over the world.

Programme

Week of 2-8 July: Plan your adventure!

During this week we will start to get to know each other by playing
videogames, talking at assemblies and planning what we would like to do for the rest of the month: it can be whatever we want, absolutely what we want! Individually, in groups, with a partner or however we like, we will have the chance to do what we want to do. A game, a song, a Super Mario championship, a work of art or all of them-- prepare your imagination because you're going to need it!

Week of 9-15 July: Gather the materials for your experiments!
We will spend this week preparing our experiment tables. We will gather games, drawings, films, music… Everything we need to do our experiments. We will get everything ready: screwdrivers, remote controls, computers, microphones and all the material we can think of so we’re ready to start investigating.

Week of 16-22 July: Our investigations get started!

Once everything is ready, you will use your artistic, technological and scientific talents to do experiments. Let's play!

Week of 23-29 July: Show your art to the world!
In the last week we can show our experiments to the rest of the group, take pictures of it, post them on the Internet, or leave them at the museum…whatever we want. Show us the discoveries you've made and astonish the world!

31 July: Party!

The last day of camp we will have a big goodbye party with videogames and good music!

OPEN TERRARIO / Screening and presentation of El cielo del Ojo

Friday 18 May at 7 pm.

Cielo del Ojo is a group project for video creation, comprised of five European voluntary groups focused on film production and distribution: Franti of Italy, Nisi Masa France of France, Ms. Balthazars of Austria, Euphoria Borealis of Finland and Cinestesias of Spain.

The thematic axis of the project is El Cielo (the Sky or Heaven), a sufficiently broad topic to allow all types of film expression: Video art pieces, standard film stories, animation stop motion, documentaries and false documentaries.

Each group made a two minute video produced “Exquisite Corpse” style: the ending of each one is the beginning of the next. During pre-production, a travelling box was sent by the different cities where those involved in the project lived.

The overall result was edited with a soundtrack created by sound artist Alberto Bernal.

OPEN TERRARIO/ A New Tahrir Square

8 May to 17 June.
Presentation of the project led by Miguel Moreno and Martín Toimil. Tuesday 8 May at 6:30 pm.

Selection of participating projects in the international call for ideas for the reinterpretation of Tahrir Square in Cairo.
To celebrate the launch of the revolutionary movement that was born and continues in Egypt, the ICARCH international design and architecture competition platform launched the call for A New Tahrir Square so that participants from all over the world could make suggestions, at all levels, for a new concept of Tahrir Square.
At this exhibit, we can enjoy and analyze the works that numerous teams from around the world submitted. In keeping with the popular revolutionary movement, the proposals were free and from a wide range of disciplines, to guarantee the most extensive representation and the freedom that characterized the Egyptian movement.

Through Miguel Moreno Mateos, the Estudio de Paisajismo GM3 has coordinated the exhibit, with support from a multidisciplinary team of professionals.

* FÁBRICA DE CINE SIN AUTOR (FACTORY OF AUTHORLESS CINEMA)

After several years’ experience with film practices in Madrid, the “Cine sin Autor” (Authorless Cinema) group is starting its adventure of building its first Factory. Intermediae will host the first stage of the project and will be the institution facilitating these first processes, located in the neighbourhood surrounding Matadero Madrid.

The CsA group intends to test its production methods on a larger scale, in order to make lend greater visibility to its filmmaking processes, which are participatory, horizontal and inclusive. We believe that these processes are the foundation of a new film production model in keeping with the 21st century.
The key to this methodology is that in all the phases of film production (script, shooting, editing, final cut and film management), the directors, protagonists and managers are non-professional people involved in the process, which is also open to anyone who wants to take part and intervene in these processes.
Cinema has left behind its old practices and turned into a social event. For three years now, we have been able to read the way the most contemporary texts and actions place the current moment as the origin of the Second History of Cinema.

* OPEN MONDO PIXEL ARSGAMES / “Game, They Wrote”: Péndulo Studios tells it all about New York Crimes
Mondo Pixel

Since 1994, Spanish developers at Pendulo Studios have steadily improved the quality of their creations with each new launch: from Hollywood Monsters to its second part, as well as each and every one of the titles in the Runaway saga, Pendulo has managed to breathe new life into what many considered the dying genre of graphic adventures. It has the graphics of an animated comic and its script is packed with unexpected twists. And if you think New York Crimes looks great on the outside, just wait till you see its inner beauty! And who better than the creators of the game to show us both sides? We’ll get chills at the next Open Mondo Píxel-ArsGames meeting, as the geniuses from Pendulo Studios reveal the mysteries hiding behind New York Crimes.
